9th Annual Building Healthy Lifestyles Conference

Lifestyle as Medicine: Beyond Pills and Procedures

Friday, February 7, 2014, 12:00pm - Saturday, February 8, 2014, 3:15pm

The 9th annual Building Healthy Lifestyles Conference will feature nutrition and physical activity experts discussing lifestyle-based alternatives to medications and procedures frequently used to treat America’s common chronic health conditions. Internationally recognized scholars will present their latest research on exercise as cardiovascular medicine and first line treatment for type 2 diabetes, the positive effects of walking while working, and foods to optimize health. This two-day conference aims to shift traditional medical thinking toward a paradigm of lifestyle as medicine.

The conference provides opportunities for experts and students to network and discuss the latest research. “The conference is unique in that it is mainly for students to obtain research information first hand from experts,” says Glenn Gaesser, PhD, director of the Healthy Lifestyles Research Center.

Professors Gaesser and Siddhartha Angadi, PhD are conference co-chairs. Doctoral students in the Interdisciplinary Physical Activity, Nutrition, and Wellness PhD program are organizing the conference.
